James & Sarah (Tindall) Hutchinson
James Hutchinson, son of Jonathan & Elizabeth (Dissosway) Hutchinson, received land left to him by his father's April 1776 will, as did his brothers - Isaac, Amos and William. In 1786, Isaac, Amos and William gave a quit claim deed, dated 4 August 1786, to their brother James giving up their rights to the piece of land.
In 1998, I was told that there were some "Hutchinson" papers for sale in a book store outside of Freehold, New Jersey on Rt.#33. The next day, I drove three hours from my home in Delaware to the store and was able to purchase several documents pertaining to the family. One of these documents was an original of the above mentioned 1786 quit claim deed.
The deed identifies them as sons of Jonathan Hutchinson. So, here we have
three brothers in 1786,
about 10 years after their father's death, giving their rights to the land they
obtained by their father's Will and turning it over to their brother, James, my
5th great-grandfather, for 15 shillings.

SOME PHOTOS OF THE DESCENDANTS OF JAMES & SARAH (TINDALL) HUTCHINSON
Isaac H. Hutchinson, was the son of James & Sarah (Tindall) Hutchinson. Isaac was born 15 May 1778, in Middlesex County, New Jersey and died 9 December 1866, in Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. He married (1) Margaret Thorpe on 10 April 1804. She was born 15 February 1785 and died 4 February 1850. He married (2) Ann Potter on 25 April 1855. Isaac was a miller and a little "community" grew up around his mill and was locally known as Hutchinson, Pa. The little "community" has long disappeared but was in what is now the Hopwood area. Isaac's stone home still exists, as does his family Bible.
BEDFORD, TAYLOR CO., IOWA - PHOTOS
A grandson of Isaac's was Isaac Brown Hutchinson, the son of John Tildon & Malinda (Brown) Hutchinson. [No one has been able to verify the "TILDON" name. John always signed his name as "John T. Hutchinson." The family Bible had his middle name as "TILDON." However, John T. Hutchinson's grandmother was Sarah "TINDALL," of New Jersey, and it was my guess many years ago that the middle name was "TINDALL." However, there is no proof for that either other than it being the usual "convention of the day" re: giving the maiden name of the grandmother as a middle name of a descendant child. Also, the male children of the New Jersey family lines, down to the present day [my Uncle], and in the various branches, have a male child named John Tindall Hutchinson, after the above mentioned Sarah's maiden name, and due to the Tindall family having been a neighboring farm of the family and the Tindall/Hutchinson familes have inter-married many times. Hopefully, this will explain the confusion of you seeing both Tildon and Tindall as John's middle name.] Here is a photo of Malinda (Brown) Hutchinson, b. 2 Dec 1815, m. John T. Hutchinson, d. 16 Jul 1902, buried with her husband in Buchanan (Siam) Cemetery, Taylor Co., Iowa.
Isaac Brown Hutchinson was born 16 February 1836, in Brownsville, Fayette County, PA and died on 5 September 1907, in Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa. He married on 23 May 1861, Samantha Leddick, who died on 20 March 1924. [Here is a family photo taken in 1921 in Taylor County, Iowa, of four (4) generations of Hutchinsons- Seated is Samantha (Leddick) Hutchinson, mother of John Albert Hutchinson, (1867 - 1947) who is standing without a jacket, and who is the father of William Isaac Hutchinson, (1899 - 1977) who is standing and holding his son, Gerald Delvin Hutchinson, (born 1920).] Here is a photo of William Isaac Hutchinson, who married Florence Elva Combs, on 4 December 1918. Here is a photo of William Francis [Frank] Hutchinson, son of Abraham Lincoln Hutchinson, b. 2 May 1871 - d. 7 Apr 1922 - Villisca, Jackson Twp., Montgomery Co., Iowa and married Dora Graves. Here is a photo of some of the Hutchinson Girls of Iowa - left to right, beginning in the rear - Mary Margaret Hutchinson, b. 22 Oct 1866, m. John Bolt; Martha Ellen Hutchinson, b. 10 Dec 1864, m. Franklin Chase Beavers; Blanch Sarah Hutchinson, b. 6 Mar 1884 - d. 21 March 1905; Adelia May Hutchinson, b. 6 Apr 1873. Here is a group photo of the Hutchinson Extended Family (Iowa) - Standing rear - left to right - 2nd male is John Albert Hutchinson, son of Isaac Brown & Samantha (Leddick) Hutchinson, Sr.; 4th person holding child is Florence Elva (Combs) Hutchinson, wife of William Isaac Hutchinson & the child is their son, Gerald Delvin Hutchinson; next is Alta Del Lena (Mc Farland) Hutchinson, wife of Isaac Brown Hutchinson, Jr.; the elderly woman standing just in front of the last two persons, in the white dress is Samantha (Leddick) Hutchinson, widow of Isaac Brown Hutchinson, Jr. The 2nd row - left to right - the male whose face is partially blocked is Wilbur Jones, husband to Letta Jane, who is next to him in dark dress and necklace, who is Letta Jane (Hutchinson) Jones, the dau. of John Albert Hutchinson; the next woman is Estie Wells, dau. of Isaac Brown & Alta Del Lena Hutchinson, Jr.; the next woman just behind that last woman described, who is in a white dress with necklace is Elsie May Hutchinson, dau. of John Albert & Rosa Bell (Hembree) Hutchinson; the last woman in the row, gray hair, in patterned dress is Rosa Bell (Hembree) Hutchinson, wife of John Albert Hutchinson. The 1st row - left to right - sitting is William Isaac Hutchinson, son of John Albert Hutchinson; the 3rd male holding the child is Thomas Hosman, son of Mary (Hutchinson) Hosman, who was a dau. of John Albert Hutchinson; and the next male seated, smiling, with the baby is Isaac Brown Hutchinson, Jr., brother of John Albert Hutchinson, and sons of Isaac Brown Hutchinson, Sr. Here is a photo of the Graves/Hutchinson family; from left to right - Joseph Buffington (Doc) Graves, b. 29 Oct 1859 - d. 12 Dec 1945; next his wife Elida M. (Redmond) Graves (1868 - 1949); next is William Francis (Frank) Hutchinson, above; next is his wife Eldora (Graves) Hutchinson (9 May 1886 - 10 Dec 1952); and last is Israel Washington Graves (20 Aug 1835 - 14 Jan 1923). The final photo from this line of the family is a real photo postcard. Written on it in brown ink and nib pen is "Taken October 23, 1912, aged 90 years & 6 months" and under that writing, written in pencil is, "grand ma Hutchinson my father Mother." However, no one in this line can place this person in the photo as a Hutchinson. It is now believed that this photo is of "Elizabeth Mahan Dougherty," who celebrated her 100th birthday in 1918. Elizabeth's daughter, Martha, was the step-mother to Rose Belle Hembree, who married John Albert Hutchinson.

SOME PHOTOS OF THE DESCENDANTS OF AMOS & PHEBE (CLARK) HUTCHINSON
Amos "Fack" Hutchinson, (31 May 1758-1 May 1835) was the son of Jonathan & Elizabeth (Dissosway) Hutchinson, and was the brother of James Hutchinson, above, of Middlesex County, New Jersey. It was handed down in the family that the name "Fack" was given to Amos due to an expression he used. The direct line of descent of Thomas Ely Hutchinson (1854-1933) from Amos "Fack" Hutchinson is through Amos's son, Jonathan Hutchinson (25 July 1796-24 June 1874) and his second wife, Rachel Forman, then through their son, James P. Hutchinson (1831-18 Jan 1858), and his wife, Mercy Matilda Ely (1833-9 March 1915).
Thomas Ely Hutchinson (1854-1933) married Adelaide Virginia Conover (9 May 1853-27 April 1925) and one of their children was William Ely Hutchinson (15 October 1877-22 May 1940), who married Inez Eldridge (8 February 1879-26 July 1925). [The two photos contributed by William Ely Hutchinson's grandson, Frederic James Hutchinson.]
SOME EARLY MAPS OF THE HUTCHINSON HOMESTEAD, AND ONE OF THE
HUTCHINSON GRIST AND SAW MILLS ON MIRY RUN OFF THE ASSANPINK
1. John Phillip's Map, Map Pages 1, 2, 3, 4; surveyed 27 June 1789, entitled - "James Coleman's Map of the Asunpink."
2. 1827 Map detailing the homes, owner's names, their fields, roads, the Miry Run, Shaby Conk Creek, and the Assanpink.
3. 1894 Map by Elmer Tindall Hutchinson, of the "Lower Road to Princeton showing the route taken by General George Washington and his army on the night of January 2, 1777. [Elmer T. Hutchinson, was an editor and also a long time officer of the New Jersey Historical Society. He is also my 3rd cousin, 3 times removed.]
In a court case in 1824, Samuel Hutchinson, son of Amos "Fack" Hutchinson, brought suit against James G. Coleman who had also built a mill on Miry Run. During that trial, Amos "Fack" Hutchinson testified that he had their grist mill built on Miry Run, in what is today Hamilton Twp., in 1806 by Joseph Keller, millwright. Also, on Miry Run was the grist and saw mill rebuilt, by James & Sarah (Tindall) Hutchinson, after the Revolutionary War on Pond Road, in what is today Washington Twp. near the Hamilton Twp. line. The maps mentioned above refer to Amos "Fack" Hutchinson's mill, which was later operated and known as Samuel Hutchinson's mill.
Still further down the Assanpink at Windsor, just off of the road (that is now blocked off) that exited on the south bound lane of Rt.#130 by the Assanpink, was the mill of "Fack's" son, Amos Hutchinson (16 September 1798-16 February 1889), who established the mill sometime in the 1820s. Amos married Abigail Ely (25 August 1806-5 January 1894) and they had several children; one being known as Amos Hutchinson, Jr. Later in life, Amos Hutchinson, Jr., (August 1844-27 January 1912) took over the grist mill operations at Windsor, NJ, and ran them until his death.
When I was a boy growing up in Hightstown in the 1940s, the mill's foundation and the fallen remnants of the wooden mill structure were still present next to the Assanpink. This location was a favorite spot for many people during trout season. There would be cars lined along Rt. #130 and the road from Rt #130 that lead to the mill and further into Windsor along the railroad tracks. Now, the above mentioned road is longer present to Rt. #130 and nothing remains of the once busy Windsor Mill that stood nearby. [Windsor Mill Photo]
